At Denham Green E-Act Primary Academy we strive to support all children to enable them to reach their potential at school.

In order to achieve this many steps are taken to support them through their learning journey.

Quality teaching is vital; however for some children there are occasions when additional support may be needed to help them achieve their targets.

Inclusion

At Denham Green E-Act Primary Academy, we believe every child should be challenged to reach their potential. Some children may have needs which are different from, and additional, to their peers and therefore may require additional support or intervention to achieve their potential.

Additional support

Each pupil’s education programme will be planned by the class teacher. It will be differentiated accordingly to suit the pupil’s individual needs. This may include additional general support by the teacher or teaching assistant in class.

The inclusion manager meets regularly with the team to ensure good practice is shared and any arising issues are addressed quickly.

Learning support assistants support alongside the teacher in the classroom and when appropriate lead small group and one to one intervention to meet individual needs.

If a pupil has needs related to more specific areas of their education, such as spelling, handwriting, numeracy and literacy skills etc. then the pupil will be placed in a small focus group.

This will be run by the teacher or teaching assistant. The length of time of the intervention will vary according to need but will generally be for a term. The interventions will be regularly reviewed by all involved to ascertain the effectiveness of the provision and to inform future planning.

At the academy, we have a dedicated team whom work closely with the teaching staff to support children with additional needs.

Our Special Educational Needs Coordinator is Mrs Manraj Tawana, who can be contacted on 01895 833369. She is also our Inclusion Team Lead.

Progress

At Denham Green E-Act Primary Academy we track pupil progress rigorously. Pupil progress meetings are held regularly to monitor the progress of the SEN and more vulnerable pupils within each year group. This also means that pupils who are not making progress are identified swiftly, interventions are evaluated and other interventions are implemented in order to meet individual needs.
